"We are preparing 21st century learners."

The History of Lincoln Charter Schools:
Lincoln Charter School is unique in that it is the first conversion Charter School in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was an arduous fight, but through the initiative of parents, local educators, EdisonLearning, Inc. and the support of the Pennsylvania Charter Appeals Board, the Lincoln Charter School opened for students in August of 2000. We continued to battle the School District of the City of York through two charter renewals. Finally, in 2010, the School District of the City of York approved our third charter renewal without objection. We continue to uphold our mission statement, "To provide a world-class education to all students." This is done through a rigorous curriculum, a high level of accountability for student achievement, high expectations for parents and a high level of support from our Charter Board of Trustees.
As satisfaction with Lincoln Charter School increased, the parents and families requested that a middle school be opened so that their children could continue with the same high academic standards, behavior expectations, and family environment. The charter application was denied by York City School District in the spring of 2008. A year later, Helen Thackston Charter School was approved and opened in August of 2009 to 195 students in grades 6 and 7. The school experienced many successes in the first year of operation, including making AYP, the first public middle school in York City to do so. At the start of year two, Helen Thackston grew to 410 students in grades 5 through 8. Currently, construction is underway for the new Thackston building with a completion date set for the fall of 2013.
Both schools continue to partner with EdisonLearning, Inc. and implement a research-based curriculum for all subject areas. This year we continue to use Achieve3000 throughout our curriculum to provide more opportunities for exposure to non-fiction reading and writing. The curriculum is rich with opportunities to educate the whole child. Our schools’ design and philosophy are based upon the belief that a school should be organized for every student's success. Every day our students have specials: Music, Visual Arts, Fitness and Health, and Spanish instruction at the Lincoln Campus and Music, Visual Arts, Fitness and Health, and Homeland Security at the Thackston Campus. "We continue to make academic gains and rank among the highest performing elementary and middle schools in the School District of the City of York."
